Why India is poor

India is poor because India never wanted to be a rich country. It was never on our agenda. even if we blame our political leadership for not having a clear vision to be rich, we can’t blame them either. because the people of India elected those leaders. Well, I do understand that when India got its independence it had problems, and leaders took decisions; which might correct considering bigger challenges in those years. On December 8, 1951, Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru presented a 5-year plan to India.  In this article, we will try to understand why India is poor.

Why India is poor

#Reason 1. fruitless government policies

If you read all 5-year plans of India, you will find out that they used gigantic words like “economic growth” but we till 9th 5-year plan India was struggling to complete its basic needs such as “safe drinking water” and “primary health service”. Finally, after 55 years of independence in the 10th 5-year plan of India, we had an agenda to double the per capita income in 10 years.5-year plan is important because India is a union of states, states and center had divided their powers through various subjects, so if we want to achieve something in an organized way, the planning commission was the best option to implement development ideas of the central government.

I am not saying that this concept was a complete failure, but we could have done better if the leaders had a greater vision for not keeping India a poor country. I am also not blaming governments and leaders, but the fact is that after 50 years of independence, we were still struggling to achieve something very basic.

#Reason.2.Irresponsible citizen’s

Cast System and women issues

Whether it is about selecting /electing a leader or eating a lunch box, we Indians still think about the cast system. even generations of social reformers such as  B.R Ambedkar and Swami Vivekananda failed to change the minds of people. We have become too selfish to consider the belief system over and above the country. We choose our leaders based on their gender, caste, and religion. A few days back TikTok had a trending video on its Indian platform which glorified acid attack on women, this shows the mentality of Indian youth.

Corruptions

Studies show’s 50% of the Indians paid a bribe to a government official to get the job done. Government officials in India even steal state properties using their power and authority with the support of local powerful politicians.

If you see a broader picture, you will find citizens and governments are the culprit behind the lost idea of India and keeping India a poor country for so many years. We say that Indians are hardworking individuals, but what is the point of working hard if your efforts are not doing anything. Our politicians must understand that India needs “wealth creation jobs” and not just ordinary jobs.

If you have any ideas on the jobs and businesses that can create wealth don’t forget to write in the comment section below.
